National Historical Museum In China

There , visitors can explore a rich collection comprising more than 900 objects spanningaround 5,000 years of cultural history . Many items are on long-term loan from the Palacemuseum in Beijing , as well as collections donated by private benefactors. Some 1objects are officially classified as national treasures by the Chinese government , andnumber of artefacts have never been publicly displayed in Hong Kong until now . ThePalace Museum is also focused on sharing important art objects from other culturesaround the world , via a changing array of loan objects from partner institutions and aprogram of temporary exhibitions.

The new Museum building was designed by architects Rocco Design; constructionbegan in 2019 and the doors opened to the public in July 2022 . The inauguration wastimed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Hong Kongs return to Mainland Chinafollowing the end of British colonial rule there.

Inside , visitors can explore the Museums exhibits arranged across nine galleries , eachdedicated to a specific theme and characterized by an evocative scenic layout, evokingfor example, the architecture of Beijings Forbidden City. Visitors can admire beautifuldisplays of paintings, calligraphy, rare books, ceramics, jade, jewelry, textiles and clothing.

Goppion has created 260 showcases for these precious exhibits : 206 are verticalfreestanding cases of different sizes , all with square and rectangular bases , and 51 arehorizontal freestanding or modular tabletop designs , with an additional three vertical wall -mounted examples . The project brief required all showcases to be of a neutral design andof the same color , which would allow seamless incorporation into the various scenic anddisplay structures throughout the galleries , such as panels , wall hangings and wallpartitions.

Goppion produced the showcases in two batches : the first from October 2020 to July2021 and the second batch between November 2021 and April 2022 . The initialchallenge was the sheer number of showcases required in a limited time frameFortunately , especially for the first batch , large-scale serial production and assembly wasmade possible by the request for many showcases to be built to the same specifications. 

Nonetheless , high performance was required from all showcases , and each one had topass stringent leak tests conducted by a laboratory . Goppion ensured that fundamentaldesign elements met the very high performance criteria expected for preservation ( suchas sealing , non-off gassing materials , internal filters , active RH control ) , and also securitwith locks for both technical compartments and exhibition space . Good visibility forvisitors was another key consideration , met by use of special high-performance glass .providing both high transparency and low reflection.

Goppion's showcases are also characterized by design features such as internarecirculating air filter systems and 1 20 opening doors , or with either P & S 80% slidingaccess or glass bell lifting by actuators . Lighting is delivered primarily by perimetermagnetic mini LED spotlights.

Combined , these qualities have delivered a suite of showcases that protect , conserveand allow unrivalled visitor access to some of Chinas most precious artworks.
