Improving Retail Sales With Shop Fittings

While most countries begin to cautiously move out of recession, we are living in constant danger of a return to the dark days of government bailouts and mass misery. During that time, one of the most recognisable names on the British high street closed down, followed by a major bookshop chain and many of these shop sites remain empty. With such huge chainstores not impervious to disaster, shops need to work especially hard to avoid catastrophe, and an important factor in ensuring things run smoothly is striking a balance between a retail display that looks easy on the eye, but remains reasonably priced. There is not much point spending vast swathes of cash on beautiful retail displays if they make customers feel the shop is too swanky for them to spend their hard-earned cash.

Of course, this does make shopkeepers immediately think that they are being pushed towards cheaper retail display fittings. This is not the case - balance is key. If a shop is offering high-quality, well-made wares, customers will be attracted. However, if these are displayed on some poor-quality shop fittings, the goods will look slightly shabby. On the flipside, retail display fittings that give a fairy average shop a 'boutique' feel are not a good idea during a period of economic uncertainty. People are looking to watch their expenditure, and feel almost intimidated by an overly-elaborate display. Indeed, a huge investment in shop fittings may backfire if a shop is not making enough money to justify the investment.

Panels with slats are an effective way of displaying goods in any sort of retail establishment. They are formed from a series of panels fitted with slats, which display hangers holding merchandise. The shelves can be clipped into the panels, so without brackets on the end, there is more space for goods. These can then be unclipped and cleaned as needed, making them easy to maintain. Many large multiples settle on a shop color scheme, select a matching panel color and then roll out their standard shop fit over all their branches.

There are certain problems that should be taken into consideration when buying any type of panel. The lack of brackets, though useful for maximizing space, does leave shelves slightly weaker, so overloaded shelves could be in danger of splitting or popping out of the slats. This can be easily remedied by putting some thought into what wares will be displayed on the shelving.

So while this retail display system does have some drawbacks, it is an effective way to organize goods in shops. With a range of styles and colours, there is the added bonus of being able to ensure that the fittings site in with the overall look of a store. They also maximize retail space to ensure that shops can utilize all their retail space to the maximum.
